MIX-UP 02.04.15: MR WILSON'S SECOND LINERS - GIDEON CONN - EMU

MR WILSON'S SECOND LINERS

New Orleans meets 90s club classics…a rave funeral without the body.

A rabble of mischievous northerners, Mr Wilson’s Second Liners form a traditional New Orleans Second Line. However, this is no sombre occasion: Mr Wilson’s expend their collective musical talent paying homage to the diehard days of the Hacienda, 90s club culture and its greatest hero, Mr Tony Wilson. Proudly stepping out in uniformed style, they channel the spirit of the 24 hour party people and get audiences dancing wherever they play.
The vision is an anarchic, street theatre extravaganza, bursting with colour and sound, rallying impromptu raves on street corners and rousing audiences young and old into a joyful frenzy.

GIDEON CONN

Known for effortlessly blending acoustic folk and hip hop, Gideon has a unique performance style which make audiences very happy.
Gideon's first single 'I want you around' was XFM playlisted, and was also breakfast single of the week on Shaun Keaveney's 6 music show. This was followed by a BBC Maida Vale session with Huw Stephens.
UK Support tours with Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip and Jason Mraz followed along with appearances at Glastonbury, Bestival, Latitude and several other festivals. 'Trademark' featured on Rob Da Bank's Bestival A-Z compilation.
Gideon was runner up in the red stripe music competition (Ben Howard won) and embarked on a UK tour with folk pop group 6 Day Riot, also a documentary 'Hitting Home -Good Luck Gideon' aired on Manchester's Channel M.
2014 was spent writing and recording a new album of soulful hip hop for release in 2015. The sound is lead by a Fender Rhodes fed through a loop pedal with sat back grooves. The writing is a combination of personal and humanitarian.

'I don't believe in genres - I believe in songs.'

'The people of Britain may not know it yet, but Gideon Conn is one of their national treasures.' - Scroobius Pip

'What's going on in that crazy noggin of yours?' - Russell Brand

EMU

An exciting and original instrumental quartet who fuse jazz, electronic and groove and dance music with a twist of Eastern influences.

'Emu produce amazing sounds, mixing exotic warbling notes with evocative jazzy overtones. Every piece is varied; one minute it could be slow-paced and dreamy, the next pounding along with a driving beat.'

Sam Lewis - saxophones
Alan Keary - bass guitar/double bass
Liviu Gheorghe - piano,synths
Alan Taylor - drums
