MIX-UP 05.02.15: THE JOSHUA CAVANAGH-BRIERLEY GROUP - THE RETROSETTES - ZACC ROGERS

THE JOSHUA CAVANAGH-BRIERLEY GROUP

A forward-thinking and highly energetic group they perform original compositions that cover a wide range of styles and dynamics. From extremely complex arrangements to minimal, popish melodically-driven compositions, the Nonet draws on a broad spectrum of influences and is unfettered in its creativity. The group is bursting with exciting individuals, inspiring one another to push themselves further in each performance.
The Band : Joshua Cavanagh-Brierley, Alan Taylor, Craig Hanson, Danny Wellens, Jake Fletcher, Gavin Hibberd, Sam Healey, Kyran Matthews and Anthony Brown.

THE RETROSETTES

The Retrosettes have been split into 2 bands playing at venues, festivals and events for around 5 years. They have a sound that merges classic Jazz, Soul and Funk with modern Pop and Indie. More recently they have merged the two bands into a quintet with includes the singers from both of the bands: Helen Rodgers and Paul Bytheway.

Their original material still has a timeless sound and draws from the same influences of the 50s, 60s and 70s. Its now like Sly and The Family Stone meets The Rolling Stones. With 3 part harmonies (with the 3rd from drummer Rick Weedon), gritty organ and Rhodes solos from Andrzej Baranek and funky bass lines from Hugo 'Harry' Harrison, the sound of the Retrosettes is complete.

The band goes into the studio next month to record their first EP.

ZACC ROGERS

Zacc Rogers plays the sounds of covers & originals, Soul, Jazz, Yee-Haa, Rock & Roll, Gospel, Folk, Blues and Reggae. Since settling in Manchester Zacc has established himself as a strong solo performer gigging frequently up and down the country and in venues across the north west. Zacc is one of the biggest names on the street performing roll call in Manchester.

MIX-UP 04.12.14: SHYFINGER - BIMBLE BROTHERS - LORI CAMPBELL

SHYFINGER

Having been musicians for quite some time, the members of Shyfinger came together, desperate to have a band with an interesting name.

All the good names were taken.

ALL OF THEM.

But this did not deter the plucky crew of instrument manglers, bashers and blowers. Oh no. It made them more RESOLUTE. And thus, they did put together bits of funky riffing, and jazzy noodling, and some of that “head-nod shit,” leaving out the face melting solos so beloved of musos everywhere, and verily it became a set.

And oh, they did practice.

And they did write.

And they did drink tea, of varying strength and exotic flavourings.

And they were happy for now they have a band to which you can listen.

Good luck, and godspeed!

BIMBLE BROTHERS

A pair of likely Lancashire lads, The Bimble Brothers travel the world through music and song.
They are writers, composers, song collectors and multi-instrumentalists. Their music is a beguiling blend of original material inspired by traditional melody, and traditional song inspired by modern rhythms.

They play tunes dear to their hearts. It doesn’t matter what genre or style, if a song makes a Bimble smile they’ll play it, if it makes them cry, they’ll play it twice. The Bimbles love to entertain; they are, in fact, just good old song and dance boys.

Their songs are often about their time spent bimbling around the world, falling out, falling in love, drinking too much and not drinking enough.

Formed at birth, the Bimble Brothers were destined to perform together until the end of their joyful days.

Their favourite food is raw liver butties.

One definition of bimble:

‘To bimble is to walk or travel at a leisurely pace.’ – The Guardian (Lancaster)

Influenced by genres: Folk, Bluegrass, Blues, Jazz, Shanty...etc...

LORI CAMPBELL

Lori Campbell's sound is a blend of folk, Soul and Jazz. Her influences range from Bert Jansch to Kate Bush taking in a bit of Louis Armstrong along the way. From Sidmouth in Devon but currently based in Bristol, Lori has just released her debut EP seeds which is available through her website - www.loricampbellmusic.com

If you haven’t seen this freckled folk singer weave her magic on her pint sized guitar before, then you must. Rain or shine, mud or grass this is a pick me up of a show that you simply mustn’t miss.

Lori Campbell oozes charm, she's a comedic sweetheart and sings smooth and lilting as all hell. Armed with a pint sized guitar, uke and supreme mouth trumpet skills, Lori will literally knock your socks off. - Nuala Honan - Live in the Lions Den
